This siren (and in a way the entire county siren system) was dedicated in honor of Christopher R. Keller and Samantha Wierson, who both lost their lives clearing debris after the August 10th, 2020 derecho. The historic storm caused approximately $11 billion in damage across central/eastern Iowa, northern Illinois and northern Indiana. The storm produced Category 4 hurricane force winds in Iowa, and spawned countless tornadoes throughout the affected states. As of 10/2020, this derecho was the costliest thunderstorm in US history.
