The City of Boardman has sirens that are part of the Mahoning County Siren System, consisting of several Whelens and an abandoned Thunderbolt.
Federal Enterprises Thunderbolt 1000 - Boardman School - Abandoned - Siren was replaced by a Whelen Vortex "Finback" in the 1990s. Installed around 1952 as part of the Youngstown Civil Defense net. Later fitted with a Whelen MS-864 during the transition Whelen/Federal system, and ran until it either died or was replaced by the Vortex at the strip mall adjacent to the school. The school is also no longer in operation and currently serves at the district offices/maintenance building. Photos taken 9/19/2020.
