Sirens in Cannon Falls are tested on the first Wednesday of every month:
-At 1PM in Alert and the tornado warning voice messages
-At 6:30PM in Hi-Lo and the flood evacuation messages
Both signals are preceded and followed by up to 3 test announcements. The flood signal is used for the Byllesby Dam about a mile upstream the Cannon River from the city of Cannon Falls. The City has a quite detailed online map and instructions for residents on evacuations in case of a dam failure. Much of the City sits well below the water level of Lake Byllesby, with the river banks near downtown sitting about 60 feet below, meaning that in a worst case scenario almost the entire city would have to be evacuated.
